Investment thesis
🔼 Strong Financial Performance. ConocoPhillips presented a strong report for Q2 2024. The company's revenue increased by 9.7% YoY, reaching $14.1 bln. This was driven by higher production volumes, up to 1,945 MBOED (thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day), and rising prices. Adjusted net profit increased by 4.5% YoY, totaling $2.3 bln, or $1.98 per share. The net profit margin remained steady at 17%. ConocoPhillips ranks among the industry leaders in terms of margins, indicating high operational efficiency.
🔼 Dividends. The company shares its profits with shareholders through dividend payments. In May, it was announced that starting from Q4 2024, dividends would increase to $0.78 per share. Currently, ConocoPhillips pays $0.58 per share, along with special payments of $0.20. This means that the special dividend will become permanent. The expected dividend yield is 3%.
🔽 Risks. The main risk for the company is energy prices. Since ConocoPhillips does not engage in oil refining, it will not be able to offset a drop in oil prices through petroleum products. However, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and OPEC actions do not suggest a significant decline in energy prices.
